Brevet de technicien supérieur (BTS)
Every business sector develops new technical support positions associated with engineering, research, senior financial or commercial management. The BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur), a state diploma, meets all the requirements in terms of qualifications and skills, with the aim of immediate professional immersion.
Obtained after 2 years, the BTS confers a professional qualification in the commercial and services sectors. The skills acquired meet the challenge of globalization of trade and a changing productive systems which today require profound technological knowledge, operational know-how and managerial competencies.
Statistics from recent years have shown a high rate of employability among BTS holders (100%). As an internationally recognised state diploma, the BTS can be a steppingstone to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree both in Mauritius and abroad.
An Internationally Recognised Diploma
The BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur) is a national diploma of the French higher education system which is part of the European system of LMD (Licence (Degree) – Masters – Doctorat – PhD). The European Credit Transfer System which allows a student to move through any educational system of the countries of the European Union. The BTS counts for a total of 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
For companies engaged in international competition, the BTS complies with the demands of technical and professional training as defined by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO): “A general education that involves the study of techniques and related sciences, the acquisition of practical skills, attitudes, understanding and knowledge related to the professions of the various sectors of economic and social life.” (Technical and Vocational Education and Training for the 21st Century).

Course Objective
The holder of BTS Communication designs and implements different types of communication campaigns (advertising, event management, public relations) for commercial, institutional, social or public projects. This implies the implementation and follow up of communication projects, relationship management with advertisers and other suppliers as well as a continuous monitoring. The person coordinates, plans, budgets and controls the different tasks involved in the project. S/he should be able to produce and market communications solutions to meet the expectations of various audiences.
In this context, s/he is able to conceive and implement a communication project, ensure and follow an advisory relationship with the advertiser, and finally ensure operational monitoring. S/he takes part in the creation of the form and content of internal or external communication, based on specifications of the project.
The “job” option is open since the first year of BTS Communication. This progressive and regular learning method allows the Communication student to become an effective professional who is familiar with the ins and outs of the job and the industry that s/he has chosen to join: event management, public relations, advertising…
Course Content
This 2-year course is structured around 3 main functions: design and implementation of communication campaigns, relationship with the advertiser, continuous monitoring.

Internships
The course comprises 14 weeks of internships spread over the two years. It is possible to undertake part or whole of the course under the work/study model.
Job Prospects
The BTS Communication holder can work in different areas: internal or external communications management, public relations management, as press attaché for public or private companies, holding a wide range of positions: advertising manager – media planner, project manager – budget manager, press attaché, account manager, advertising assistant, -media marketing manager, account executive, event management – wedding planner, copywriter.
