Introduction

The BSc Data Science and Business Analytics brings together the study of data science, machine learning, statistics and mathematics – with an emphasis on their real-world applications and impact on economics and society.
With this programme, you will learn about the properties of data, how to extract insights from data, and how to report the results. As you progress, you will build your understanding of classical and modern data analytics techniques, modelling, statistical machine learning, and AI.

Tutor

Students are required to attend a full-time course at the recognised teaching centre. For all registered students, online study materials are provided for each course studied. These include tools to assist a student in the development of the skills of information search, comprehension and analysis and the generation of original and thoughtful assignments.  The study materials offer advice on how to use the recommended textbooks which form the focus of the student’s studies. Most Essential Readings are available in the University of London’s Online Library but students may be required to buy certain textbooks themselves.

Course Structure – 4 modules to be taken per year

(Includes both CORE and ELECTIVES)

Year 1: Introduction to Economics, Statistics 1, Statistics2, Introduction to Mathematical Statistics, Mathematical Methods, Business and Management in a global context, Algebra, Calculus

Year 2: Programming for Data Science, Advanced Statistics – Distribution Theory, Statistical Methods for Market Research, Elements of Econometrics, Abstract Mathematics, Advanced statistics – statistical inference, Information systems management

Year 3: Machine Learning, Business Analytics, Applied modelling and prediction, Monetary Economic International Political Economy, Management and Innovation of e-business strategy

With a strong background in data science and business analytics, you can consider careers or further study in fields like:

Academic requirements

EITHER Pass in:
  • 3 subjects at A-level and 1 subject at subsidiary level at Higher School Certificate Examination;
OR Pass in:
  • 2 subjects at A-level and 2 subjects at subsidiary level at the Higher School Certificate Examination; and
OR Pass in:
  • 3 subjects at A-level at the London General Certificate Examination.
Or
  • A relevant Diploma/National Diploma from a recognised institution.
